Abstract This analytical paper explores the effects of government roles on higher education by comparing the education systems of socialism and neoliberalism. While exploring the similarities and differences in higher education, neoliberalism is tied to the deregulation of the economy and less funding for public goods. This decrease in funding leads to privatization of higher education. Socialism supports students of all classes and focuses on the improvement of society while neoliberalism values laissez-faire economic practices and believes that the government should have a limited role in the policy. This paper will explain why socialist practices support students to become more qualified and happier through higher quality of life and access to public commodities.   Works Cited Akers, Beth and Matthew M.
